Our Mission
Our mission as members of the Las Vegas HS Choirs is to develop a musical community, where we can attain harmony, balance, and blend with each piece of music by first establishing positive, trusting relationships with each other. We believe that by creating this safe atmosphere will build and strengthen our performances by encouraging risk, growth, persistence, and a focus on and commitment to excellence.
About
Las Vegas HS Vocal Music
The Las Vegas High School Vocal Music Department is about more than just a choir program. It is strictly focused on the unique experience of vocal music. Our choirs spend each day practicing proper breathing technique, sight-reading, and rehearsing high-quality repertoire in the most proper and efficient manner. As a result, our choirs have received high ratings in Festival and community performances throughout Clark County School District as well as the country itself!

Students are expected to know how to work in our classes. It is incredibly difficult to succeed in a choral ensemble when students do not put in the work to be truly successful.
However, we provide many opportunities to students who do work hard and want to continue improving on their craft. For instance, we have started our very own Private Voice Lesson program, which is offered for free to students who apply for it.
We also give several opportunities to allow students to receive training on leadership skills, auditioning skills, etc. Many of our students, especially in our higher-level ensembles tend to have a very positive attitude about music and the different genres there are out there, which makes learning more fun for newer members who want to come and sing!

Saige Barlow - Choir Director
Miss Saige Barlow is currently the full-time choir director at Las Vegas High School (2 years) and was previously the choir director at Lawrence Junior High School (1 year) both in Las Vegas, NV. She also hosts a private studio in Henderson called Pitch Point Music Studios, where she offers private lessons for voice, piano, flute, and trumpet.

Saige has also been part of many elite choral ensembles throughout her life, including Zion's Youth Symphony and Chorus (4 years), the Utah State University Chorale (1 year), the Utah State University Choral Scholars (1 year), the Utah State University Chamber Singers (2.5 years), and Utah State University's new a cappella group, Aggiepella (0.5 year) when it first started. Saige received her bachelor's degree from Utah State University in May 2022. There, she has had the privilege of working with renowned professors, including Craig Jessop, the current director of the American Festival Chorus in Logan, UT and former director of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. She is a highly rated teacher by many of her mentors, including Dr. Jessop, Dr. Cory Evans, and her student-teaching mentor, Larry Smith from Bountiful High School in Bountiful, UT. During her student teaching, she had the opportunity to conduct during a Festival performance in Northern, UT, and she and the choir received a superior rating!

During her years of teaching, she has been very well-known in her work with Title I schools, and she firmly believes that just because students might struggle with living a comfortable, or even flexible lifestyle does not mean they cannot succeed in her classes. She has worked with students who could not read or come from struggling families, and those same students have been able to achieve superior sight-reading scores and excellent Festival ratings! As a high school teacher, she has developed several music videos and digital content to market all her choirs, and she has also brought out many unique talents from among her classes outside of vocal music! Throughout all her teaching experience, she has had positive interactions with her administration as well as high ratings of teaching effectiveness!

Aside from teaching and performing, Saige has also composed many original works and written many original songs and arrangements of songs, which she has used in several performances around the western united states. Ever since starting at Las Vegas High School, she has arranged several songs for her individual students and choirs in order to showcase their talents in unique ways that no one else has heard before. This school year, she is premiering her own arrangement of a traditional Welsh piece called "Suo Gân," which will feature Welsh and English lyrics!

Many of her students know that she deeply cares about each of them, and she strives every day to allow them to feel safe and heard in their classrooms while maintaining a positive, respectful, and growth-oriented environment where every student knows there are teachers and students who will always look out for them. Her mission statement has always been, "If choirs are not unified, the music performed cannot be performed well. When they are, excellence can be achieved better with preciseness, and the message of our music become more powerful. That's when the power of music truly manifests itself is when choirs are in unity for a positive cause." In such, everything she teaches is formulated in a way with the intention of allowing all students to succeed and be themselves, regardless of their beliefs or background.
Rachelle Madrid - Instructional Aide
Miss Rachelle Madrid is the full-time choir Instructional Aide at Las Vegas High School (1 year).

Rachelle attended Las Vegas for her four years of High School and graduated year 2021. Her Junior year, she had the opportunity to join the Mariachi program, where she learned new vocal techniques and learned to play the Harp. She also made amazing memories like preforming for the Presidential Inauguration along with the talented group, Mariachi Joya! Her Senior year, she had the opportunity to join the Choir program. There, she had the privilege to sing with the Concert Choir and with Spectrum. She has an abundance of experience on performing in front of large or small crowds and loves to share her experience with others and teach them the joy that comes from preforming your talents!

It's an amazing thing working at a school you graduated from, especially for an awesome program like choir! As the Instructional Aide, she assists with Classroom support such as: helping the teacher with paperwork, student supervision, and answering student questions. She also assists with Student support such as: working with students individually (private voice lessons) or in small groups (sectionals), helping them understand classroom rules, and providing emotional support. It is most important to have patience, flexibility, communication, and a positive attitude and she finds joy in doing so!

Aside from having the privilege of assisting Saige, Rachelle is a full-time online student at Western Governors University in UT. She is pursuing her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and plans to work with Elementary students one day. Although she aspires on teaching Elementary, she loves working with High School and strives to make sure every student feels seen and understood. She tries her best to create a respectful, positive, and meaningful environment where students also feel appreciated.
